You can not let the attacker put you in their guard. From the standing guillotine using the frame and changing the angle of the choke by dropping the opposite arm gives the breathing room you need before executing the move. Also it prevents them from pulling guard which goes to the main point of this discussion. The same thing applies to the Von Fluke Choke; you must not allow the attacker to put you in the guard and you use your body weight to finish the choke.
Getting your body to the opposite side of your head, keep top position, and stay out of the guard and it’s very unlikely for you to be finish by a hand grip only guillotine
Flaring the elbows to help in decreasing the size of the hole for the neck was a big take away for me. Almost ashamed to admit I had been trying to squeeze by drawing elbows to last for some time (muscling it) so this is good for me to practice. Second the hand on hip blocking their body from following me as I swim the arm across the top of the shoulder was good. I got caught in a standing guillotine the other day and was able to escape using the rest of the technique but that detail of hand on hip would have made it so much more efficient. Thanks!
When in the guillotine first get perpendicular to his body, than catch his neck in a V and apply shoulder pressure with your own shoulder.

Crimping opponents shoulder down with arm wrapped over their trap on guillotine defense.
U said multiple times that u flare the elbows so u cant pull yer head out.
U also said several times that u put yer hands on the hip to prevent opponent from jumping guard.
How r these answers not right??
Stiffarm the hips to prevent guard recovery.

On the Guillotine, flaring the elbows and on the defense, pushing on the hip to prevent them from jumping guard. good info.
Flaring the elbows on the guillotine. Somehow that was the one thing I had been missing.
Learning how to do the standing arm in guillotine defense was my biggest takeaway.
