Usually, folks get beat up in their guard in the UFC. I think, the fighters in the UFC have bad jiu jitsu teachers! Brian J January 17, 2018 at 11:28 pm Log in to Reply @Charles F. Because it all comes down to training method. Most gyms entertain “sport BJJ” training methods. I don’t necessarily think it’s because of “bad teachers”, but because of they way they train. Many world class tournament BJJ players have failed miserably in MMA (Marcelo Garcia, Andre Galvao, Roger Gracie, to name a few). Personally, this is why I believe self-defense should be at least 50% of a schools curriculum if not the sole focus of training to purple belt. However, many people are more concerned with earning tournament medals instead of self-defense. On the bright side, you’ve taken the “red pill” and joined this online club! I really enjoy watching their Jiu-jitsu inside the octagon. Carl C March 10, 2018 at 5:51 am Log in to Reply I think this Vale Tudo module & self-defense is abdolutly crucial for Bjj. At the end of day Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and what good is it if you can’t use it in a self-denfense situation. That said, nothing wrong with sport Bjj just make sure you train both Leave A Comment Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
