Henry, in a early 90’s seminar Rickson did for Relson in Hawaii (posted on youtube), Rickson teaches elbow strikes from punch parries.

Along these lines, did you ever practice striking techniques from standing at Rickson’s? If so could you give your thoughts on what makes Jiu-Jitsu striking different from traditional striking arts?

Apologies in advance for such a general question!

    Hi Henry,

I have problems with the Gripbreak using three finger of each hand. When I face someone really strong and heavy I’m not able to turn their wrist.

Hey Henry. Can you show how you like to escape the headlock. Thank you!!

Hi Henry, I was hoping you could show the behind the back bear hug self defense moves that were included in the VIP section. You showed the bear hug over the arms, bear hug high under the arms and arms around the waist. Has your self defense for these particular scenarios changed or do you still recommend what was shown? Thanks.

Hi Henry, could you show us your self defense moves for punches?

Hi Henry, on the Cross grip Wrist grab defense, how do you prevent your opponent from rolling out of the shoulder lock?

Hi Henry, would you mind showing where you would proceed to (i.e. Hands head and hip position) if the person escalates and throws a strike or thrust from unit 12, from hands up when someone walks into your space? Could you show the way you would go to the ground if you chose to, and what you may do if you had to stay standing (eg for multiple attackers)? Thank you.

henry, how do you actually drill self defense stuff? Could you demonstrate? I get drilling kneeslide pass for example – i approach, get grips, slide with ever improving weight distribution and good angle. How do we ‘drill’ self defense techniqures? Same way? One guy grabs by collar and another breaks the grip. One guy does standing headlock, another an escape, etc. Please advise.

How I drill it is I usually allow 3 different scenarios to happen then when one of the situations happens I have to defend, I let my opponent decide what grab he’s going to use so I’m not exactly sure what his attack is going to be. As I get better, I add more variables or attacks my opponent can do. So I stand relaxed and they do a grab and I have to defend correctly… hope that makes sense

I second Jeff W’s 1st post Henry. I think striking and Strike defence, then intermediate entering Techniques is something that you will hopefully show us as it’s the elephant in the room at the moment….
